MINECRAFT MADNESS (1 September - 4 October 2020)

Class Time : 10am or 2.30pm (1 hour session)

4 sessions required to complete the program.

Minecraft is an expansive game that lets players design and create unique worlds with amazing structures. In this class students will be tasked with different challenges using various components of the Minecraft game. Students will use Redstone- which is Minecraft’s version of electrical circuitry to power their creations and create complex builds within the game. This class can be done on any console or version of the Minecraft game. Let’s build!

For this program your student will need:

  • Computer/laptop, a mouse(recommended but not mandatory) OR Gaming Console (PS4/XBox/Nintendo Switch)
  • Any Modern Version of Minecraft with Creative Mode
  • Solid Internet Connection for watching EFK Flex Videos (no internet is required for game)

For this program you will need a computer/laptop, mouse (recommended) and a solid internet connection for downloading the programs software. If you do not have a copy of Minecraft, we recommend Minecraft Java (computer based) that can be purchased here for $26.95  Additionally, these programs work best in sequence, however that is not mandatory.

ROBOTICS CODER Z (1 September - 4 October 2020)

Class Time : 11.30am or 4pm (1 hour session)

Recommended 4 weekly sessions to cover different aspects of programming.

Give your kids the coding advantage. Learn to drive, steer and program a virtual robot in our Virtual Robotics Workshops. Must be able to work with the mouse and keyboard.

  • PC or Laptop with most recent version of Chrome Browser, a minimum 64 bit CPU and 4 GB of RAM memory (8GB is recommended)
  • A notebook or a stack of rough paper

PADDLE BOAT (1 September - 6 September 2020)

This is a fun and relaxing ride out at a waterpark. Explore the concepts of buoyancy and potential energy as we build and test our own version of a paddle boat.

PERISCOPE (7 - 13 September 2020)

Class Time : 10am or 2.30pm (1 hour session)

You can’t see around corners… or can you? In this activity find out how, carefully placed mirrors change the path light takes twice, making it possible to look over walls, around corners and even behind you – all without being seen. Investigate how light travels in a straight line and can be reflected by a mirror by making your very own periscope.

  • 4 cardboards 20 cm (length) 8-10 cm (width) each

POWERBOAT (14 - 20 September 2020)

Ditch the paddles and power up with propellers!
Students will build a boat and power it with electrical energy from batteries. The challenge is to design and build a buoyant boat and supply the propellers with an electrical charge to power the boat.

SODA SUB (21 - 27 September 2020)

Class Time : 10am Or 2.30pm (1 hour session)

Sink AND swim! Lets dive in to see how a submarine work.
In this project, students will make a self-propelled submarine out of a soda bottle and other household items. We will also explore how buoyancy and water displacement make a submarine work.

  • 1 x pre-drilled soda bottle
  • 3 x rubber bands
  • 1 x A4 foam sheet
  • 1 x A4 aluminium foil
  • 12 x metal washers
  • 2 x bendable straws
  • 1 x small piece of bluetack

WATERWHEEL (28 September - 4 October 2020)

Class Time : 10am Or 2.30pm (1 hour session)

Let’s use the power of water! To produce power, the energy of flowing water pushes against the paddles or buckets and turns the wheel. This causes the axle to turn which drives belts and gears that power the machinery. The larger the diameter of the wheel, the greater ‘leverage’ and so the greater turning effect on the axle that drives the machine.

  • 2” diameter round styrofoam (with hole at the middle) – 2pcs
